The USDA grain stocks report released on March 31 gives a new snapshot of how much grain was in storage across the United States at the start of March. The report says corn, soybeans, and all wheat were all above year earlier levels, while several smaller crops showed mixed changes in farm and commercial inventories.<\/p>\n

That matters because the report combines stocks held on farms and off farms, while also measuring indicated disappearance during the December 2025 through February 2026 quarter. Together, those figures offer a simple way to track both available supply and recent usage as the spring season begins.<\/p>\n

USDA grain stocks show bigger corn and soybean supplies<\/h2>\n

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2026 totaled 9.02 billion bushels, up 11% from a year earlier. Of that total, 5.43 billion bushels were stored on farms, up 21%, while off farm stocks were 3.59 billion bushels, down 2% from March 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

Soybean stocks in all positions totaled 2.10 billion bushels, up 10% from a year ago. On farm soybean stocks were estimated at 900 million bushels, up 3%, while off farm soybean stocks reached 1.20 billion bushels, up 16%. Wheat stocks also moved higher in the latest release<\/h2>\n

All wheat stored in all positions on March 1 totaled 1.30 billion bushels, up 5% from a year earlier. On farm wheat stocks were estimated at 298 million bushels, down 3%, while off farm wheat stocks stood at 1.00 billion bushels, up 8% from the same date last year.<\/p>\n

The report also showed a sharper increase in durum wheat. Durum stocks reached 46.5 million bushels, up 21% from a year earlier. On farm durum stocks climbed 40% to 30.2 million bushels, while off farm durum stocks slipped 4% to 16.3 million bushels. Quarterly disappearance data added more context<\/h2>\n

The USDA report also tracks indicated disappearance during the December 2025 through February 2026 quarter. Corn disappearance totaled 4.28 billion bushels, compared with 3.93 billion during the same period a year earlier. Soybean disappearance reached 1.18 billion bushels, down 1% from the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n

For all wheat, indicated disappearance totaled 377 million bushels, which was 12% above the same period a year earlier. Durum wheat disappearance moved the other way, falling 17% to 14.9 million bushels. These figures add context by showing how quickly supplies moved during the quarter, not just how much remained in storage.<\/p>\n

Other stored crops showed a mixed pattern<\/h2>\n

Outside the three biggest crops, the report showed mixed results. Grain sorghum stocks rose 15% to 172 million bushels, while sunflower stocks jumped 41% to 899 million pounds. Those increases contrasted with lower oat and barley totals compared with a year earlier.<\/p>\n
